To do this, you first must strip any remaining meat off the chicken carcass and set it aside for later use. You can then put all the solids into a large pot or stockpot along with cold water, bay leaves, and peppercorns. 

Bring this to a boil for about an hour or two over medium heat before straining through cheesecloth or a sieve into a bowl. This resultant liquid can later be used as homemade stock in soups or stews. 

By doing so, you get nutritional value from your leftovers and save money in the process!

  • 4 4 Celery Stalks, (With Leaves), Trimmed And Cut Into 2-Inch Pieces

  • 4 Medium 4 Carrots, Peeled And Cut Into 2-Inch Pieces

  • 1 Medium 1 Onion, Peeled And Quartered

  • 6 6 Garlic Cloves (Peeled)

  • 1 Small Bunch 1 Fresh Parsley, Washed

  • 6 Sprigs 6 Fresh Thyme

  • 1 Tsp 1 Kosher Salt

  • 4 Quarts 4 Cold Water

Step-By-Step Directions

  • Place chicken parts with carrots, celery, onion, garlic, parsley, bay leaf, and thyme sprigs into a large stock pot.
  • Add enough water to cover everything by at least one inch before turning up the heat. When it gets to a boil, immediately lower the heat to medium-low.
  • Ensuring the temperature is kept low will allow all the flavors to meld together without boiling away too much liquid over time.
  • Let the mixture simmer for two to three hours before straining out the solids and reserving only the broth. You now have homemade chicken broth for your favorite dishes!
  • Pressure Cooker Method
    The pressure cooker method for making broth is an excellent way to get a delicious, robust end product in less time than traditional methods.
